Anthony Browne CBE

Many residents will remember Anthony Browne as a member of our community. Anthony is one of the country’s most well-known and greatest children’s book authors. Both his children attended the village school and they lived in Down Barton Road and Chalk Pit Cottage, The Length. Anthony played cricket for the village team. The list of books that he has had published and illustrated is phenomenal. Probably the best known of these is Gorilla, the winner of The Kate Greenaway medal published in 1983. A full list of his achievements can be found on Wikipedia. Anthony was the Children’s Laureate from 2009 to 2011.

We would like to congratulate Anthony on his appointment to Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the New Year’s Honours
